ONE-DNA™ achieves Bfl-s1 reaction-to-fire test result

Update, October 2026: this article describes 2024 test results for earlier ONE-DNA™ 100% PE constructions. They are test reports, not certificates, and apply only to the product and configuration tested. See Technology for the current material routes.

ONE-DNA™ artificial grass has achieved a reaction-to-fire test result corresponding to Bfl-s1 under EN 13501-1, for a product developed for indoor and event applications.

The result was achieved without infill sand, giving specifiers and project owners an additional option where fire performance is part of the requirement.

Independently tested fire performance

The product was tested at Ghent University in accordance with EN ISO 9239-1, the test method used to evaluate the reaction-to-fire performance of floor coverings, and EN ISO 11925-2.

The test result corresponds to Bfl-s1 under the European classification system for floor coverings.

Why fire performance matters

Fire performance is an important consideration in many applications, including:

  • Events and exhibitions
  • Public buildings
  • Commercial environments
  • Rooftop applications
  • Indoor recreational spaces

In these environments, materials are often required to meet fire performance criteria as part of building regulations, project specifications or event requirements.

Understanding Bfl-s1

The Euroclass system, defined in EN 13501-1, classifies construction products according to their reaction to fire.

For floor coverings, Bfl-s1 indicates limited flame spread and low smoke production under the test conditions.

A result applies to the product and installation configuration that was tested, so project teams should check that the configuration they specify matches the test.

Fire performance without infill

Many artificial grass systems rely on infill to reach a particular fire performance.

The tested ONE-DNA™ product reached its result without infill sand. This may be relevant for temporary installations, exhibitions and indoor projects where installation simplicity matters.

Applications

The product may be considered for environments where fire performance is part of the specification, including:

  • Event flooring
  • Exhibition spaces
  • Commercial interiors
  • Rooftop installations
  • Public buildings

Independent testing gives project owners, architects and contractors documented information to use during product selection and specification.
