In 2022, ONE-DNA™ artificial grass was introduced as a mono-material artificial grass product developed for landscaping, playground and recreational sports applications. Following the expansion of production capacity, the growing network of ONE-DNA™ Changemakers is now introducing ONE-DNA™ across a wider range of projects and markets.
A different product design approach
ONE-DNA™ artificial grass is designed primarily from polyethylene (PE), creating a mono-material structure that differs from many conventional artificial grass systems.
Traditional artificial grass products are often manufactured using combinations of different materials, including polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), latex, polyurethane (PU) or other backing and coating components. These material combinations can influence how products are managed and processed after use.
The development of ONE-DNA™ reflects a Design for Recycling approach, where material composition is considered during the product design stage.
Responding to industry developments
The artificial grass industry continues to evolve as customers, installers, municipalities and other stakeholders increasingly examine the full lifecycle of products.
For many years, discussions within the sports sector have included topics such as collection, processing and material management at the end of a product’s service life. Similar discussions are now becoming more common within landscaping, playground and recreational applications.
ONE-DNA™ was developed in response to these developments, providing an alternative product design based on a mono-material structure.
Industry experience
“We have been active in the artificial grass market since 2007 and have seen how customer expectations and industry requirements continue to develop,” explains Ed Donkers.
Artificial grass offers practical solutions for gardens, playgrounds and sports facilities. At the same time, there is increasing attention on topics such as material composition, product transparency and end-of-life management. These developments influenced the creation of ONE-DNA™ and our focus on mono-material product design.
The Changemaker network
ONE-DNA™ works together with a growing network of partners known as Changemakers. These partners share an interest in innovation, product transparency and the continued development of artificial grass solutions for landscaping, play and recreational applications.
By collaborating across different markets and regions, the Changemaker network helps introduce ONE-DNA™ to customers looking for high-quality artificial grass products supported by documented product information and a Design for Recycling philosophy.
Looking forward
As the artificial grass industry continues to develop, product design, material composition and transparency are expected to remain important topics. Through ONE-DNA™ and the Changemaker network, we continue to explore new approaches that support these evolving industry requirements.
Update, October 2026: this article reflects the ONE-DNA™ range at the time of publication, based on polyethylene (PE). ONE-DNA™ now also includes a 100% PO route; see Technology for the current material routes.
