A temporary artificial grass installation for Westfield White City

Evergreens UK recently completed a large-scale artificial grass installation at the iconic Westfield White City shopping centre in London. The project formed part of the centre’s seasonal Summer Garden, an outdoor space designed for visitors to relax and enjoy major sporting events, including Wimbledon.

For this installation, Evergreens selected ONE-DNA™ artificial grass, combining visual appeal with practical installation and removal requirements.

Designed for temporary use

Temporary installations often present unique challenges. Surfaces need to be installed quickly, perform reliably throughout the event period and be removed efficiently afterwards.

The Westfield White City project demonstrates how material and installation choices can support these requirements. ONE-DNA™ artificial grass is built around a mono-material polyethylene design, providing transparent material composition and a documented approach to material management.

Fast and efficient installation

The installation covered almost 2,000 m² and was divided into two separate zones: an upper section of approximately 1,200 m² and a lower section of approximately 800 m².

Despite the scale of the project, installation progressed efficiently. The upper section was completed in a single day, including sand infill and bevelled edging. The lower section followed in approximately five hours.

To accommodate the temporary nature of the installation, Evergreens used a custom non-invasive fixing system that leaves no permanent trace after removal while maintaining stability throughout the event period.

A growing partnership

Following the success of the installation, additional projects have already been planned. Evergreens has secured three new zones, totalling approximately 1,200 m², at another Westfield location, alongside two further areas covering approximately 600 m² at White City itself.

The project demonstrates how large-scale temporary installations can benefit from careful planning, efficient installation methods and considered material choices.

Update, October 2026: this article reflects the ONE-DNA™ range at the time of publication, based on polyethylene (PE). ONE-DNA™ now also includes a 100% PO route; see Technology for the current material routes.
