ONE-DNA™ artificial grass in a landscaping project
News

Choosing artificial grass for landscaping projects

For landscapers, garden professionals and artificial grass specialists, selecting the right product involves more than appearance and performance alone. Increasingly, customers are also asking questions about material composition, product documentation and long-term product management.

With many different claims in the market, it can be difficult to determine which information is supported by documentation and which is not. This is why transparency and independently verified information are becoming increasingly important.

What should professionals look for?

When evaluating artificial grass products, several factors are worth considering:

  • Material composition
  • Product performance
  • Safety documentation
  • Independent certifications
  • Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
  • Product traceability
  • Warranty and support

A combination of these factors provides a more complete picture than relying on marketing claims alone.

The ONE-DNA™ approach

ONE-DNA™ artificial grass is developed around a mono-material polyethylene design. This creates a consistent material composition throughout the product and supports Design for Recycling principles.

The concept focuses on:

  • Material transparency
  • Product traceability
  • Independent documentation
  • Long-term product management
  • Verified environmental reporting
  • Product quality and appearance

Alongside material composition, product performance remains essential.

ONE-DNA™ products are designed to provide a natural appearance and reliable performance across a wide range of landscaping applications, including gardens, public spaces and recreational environments.

Safety and documentation

ONE-DNA™ products are supported by independent test reports; the documents available differ per product. Available documentation includes information relating to:

  • Product safety
  • Material composition
  • Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
  • Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs)
  • Product performance testing

This allows project owners and installers to evaluate products using documented information rather than assumptions.

Registration and traceability

ONE-DNA™ products can be registered through the ONE-DNA™ platform, creating a documented record of the installation.

This supports product traceability and provides project owners with access to relevant product information throughout the product lifecycle.

Making informed decisions

As expectations around product transparency continue to grow, access to reliable information is becoming increasingly important.

By focusing on documented product characteristics, independently verified information and material transparency, landscapers and artificial grass professionals can help customers make informed decisions based on facts rather than claims.

Looking ahead

The future of landscaping is likely to be shaped by better information, greater transparency and more thoughtful product design.

For professionals, understanding what a product is made of and how it is documented is becoming just as important as how it looks and performs.

Update, October 2026: this article reflects the ONE-DNA™ range at the time of publication, based on polyethylene (PE). ONE-DNA™ now also includes a 100% PO route; see Technology. The EPDs mentioned (MRPI, 2024) cover the product stage (A1 to A3) of products made at the former Hasselt site and do not represent current production in Portugal. Earlier references to a take-back programme have been revised; ONE-DNA™ does not currently operate a take-back programme in any market.
