Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are becoming an increasingly important source of product information for architects, consultants, municipalities, contractors and project owners.
In July 2024, to support transparency and accessibility, the ONE-DNA™ Environmental Product Declarations verified via MRPI® were made available through several recognized environmental databases, making independently verified product information easier to access and evaluate.
Why environmental databases matter
Environmental databases provide a central location where stakeholders can access verified product information and supporting documentation.
Rather than relying solely on marketing materials, users can review independently verified environmental data using recognized methodologies and standardized reporting formats.
This helps create greater consistency, transparency and comparability across products and suppliers.
MRPI®
MRPI® is a recognized program for the verification and publication of environmental product information for construction products.
MRPI® serves as an important gateway to several national and international environmental databases and helps ensure that environmental information is presented using recognized standards and methodologies.
ECO Platform
ECO Platform is one of Europe’s leading platforms for Environmental Product Declarations.
The platform provides access to verified EPDs from a wide range of manufacturers and product categories, helping stakeholders compare environmental information using a common framework.
For architects, consultants and public authorities, ECO Platform serves as an important source of independently verified product data.
Who uses these databases?
Environmental databases are increasingly used by:
- Architects and designers
- Consultants and engineering firms
- Contractors and installers
- Municipalities and public authorities
- Developers and project owners
- Procurement specialists
- Manufacturers and suppliers
Access to structured and verified information supports more informed specification and procurement decisions.
Local databases and assessment systems
In addition to international databases, ONE-DNA™ products were at the time also represented within regional and national systems, including:
- NBS Source (United Kingdom): NBS Source provides structured product information and specification data for professionals within the architecture, engineering and construction sectors.
- Byggvarubedömningen (Sweden): Byggvarubedömningen (BVB) evaluates building products based on documented product information and assessment criteria, supporting informed material selection within the Swedish construction market.
Why EPDs matter for artificial grass
Environmental Product Declarations provide a standardized way of presenting environmental information.
For the artificial grass sector, EPDs help:
- Improve transparency
- Support product comparisons
- Provide independently verified information
- Strengthen environmental documentation
- Support procurement and specification processes
As reporting requirements continue to evolve, access to reliable environmental data is becoming increasingly important.
What this meant for ONE-DNA™
Listing the ONE-DNA™ EPDs within recognized environmental databases reflected our commitment to transparency, documentation and independently verified information.
By making product data accessible through established platforms, we enabled architects, municipalities, consultants and project owners to access the information needed to evaluate products using recognized methodologies and consistent reporting frameworks.
Looking ahead
The growing use of Environmental Product Declarations and environmental databases reflects a broader shift towards transparency and evidence-based decision-making.
For ONE-DNA™, ensuring that product information is accessible, verifiable and easy to evaluate remains a key priority as environmental documentation becomes increasingly important throughout the artificial grass sector.
Update, October 2026: the EPDs referred to here (MRPI, 2024) covered the product stage (A1 to A3) of products made at the former Hasselt site. They do not represent current production in Portugal; EPDs for current production are in their final stage. The range at the time was based on polyethylene (PE); see Technology for the current material routes.
