A worn and high-maintenance play area at a popular campsite in Cornwall, UK, has been transformed into a clean, safe and inviting environment for children and families. The project was delivered by Venture Play and included the installation of ONE-DNA™ artificial grass as part of a complete playground renovation.
From worn ground to year-round usability
The existing play area had become increasingly difficult to maintain. Wet weather regularly created muddy conditions, while dry periods resulted in dust and uneven surfaces. As a result, the campsite sought a practical solution that would remain attractive and accessible throughout the year.
The renovation created a more consistent surface for everyday use while reducing the maintenance requirements associated with the previous installation.
Designed for play
The project included the removal and replacement of existing play equipment, installation of a new base structure and the addition of shock-absorbing underlayers beneath key play areas.
Robinia timber play equipment was selected for its natural appearance and suitability for outdoor environments, helping create a play space that integrates well with the surrounding landscape.
The area was completed with ONE-DNA™ artificial grass, providing a clean and durable surface designed for regular use by campsite visitors.
Practical material choices
Several materials were selected to support the functional requirements of the project, including:
- Granite base materials sourced locally for the installation
- Robinia timber play equipment
- Timber fencing to define the play area
- Shock-absorbing underlayers beneath key play features
Together, these elements created a safe and welcoming environment for children and families.

Since completion, the renovated play area has been well received by campsite guests. The upgraded surface and play equipment have created a more attractive and enjoyable environment while simplifying maintenance for the campsite operator.
