In Australia, Ecovia Turf and Recycling Solutions Australia have been working together to evaluate how ONE-DNA™ artificial grass materials can be processed using existing polyethylene recycling infrastructure.
The project focuses on understanding how a 100% PE (one polymer) design behaves within established plastics processing systems and what opportunities this may create for material handling after use.
Why material composition matters
Material composition plays an important role in determining how products can be identified, documented and processed. ONE-DNA™ was developed around a 100% PE (one polymer) design, providing a consistent material stream that can be assessed using existing polyethylene processing technologies.
This simplified material structure creates opportunities to explore compatibility with equipment already used throughout the plastics industry.
Collaboration in practice
The project brought together Ecovia Turf and Recycling Solutions Australia, a specialist in plastic processing and material recovery. As part of the evaluation, production offcuts and residual material from ONE-DNA™ products were processed using equipment available at Recycling Solutions Australia’s facility in Brisbane.
The material underwent shredding, grinding and reprocessing trials commonly used within polyethylene processing operations. Simon Crook and his team successfully completed the evaluation, helping to provide further insight into how 100% PE (one polymer) artificial grass materials can be handled within existing processing infrastructure.
Learning through testing
Practical trials play an important role in understanding how material design decisions influence processing possibilities.
By evaluating material behaviour in real-world processing environments, projects like this help expand industry knowledge and provide valuable technical insights for future developments.
Looking ahead
The collaboration between Ecovia Turf and Recycling Solutions Australia demonstrates the value of combining practical experience with technical expertise.
For ONE-DNA™, the focus remains on transparent material composition, documented product information and ongoing evaluation of how 100% PE (one polymer) systems interact with existing processing technologies.
Update, October 2026: this article reflects the ONE-DNA™ range at the time of publication, based on polyethylene (PE). ONE-DNA™ now also includes a 100% PO route; see Technology for the current material routes.
