Dutch municipality selects ONE-DNA™ artificial grass again

The municipality of Berkel en Rodenrijs once again selected ONE-DNA™ artificial grass for a playground renovation at the Arnemuiderpad. The project was delivered by KSP Kunstgras, which installed the new impact-attenuating surface as part of the playground upgrade.

Following the installation of two earlier soccer pitches, the municipality selected ONE-DNA™ again for this project. The renovation involved replacing both the existing play surface and parts of the playground infrastructure.

The installed system combined Schmitz shock pads, ONE-DNA™ artificial grass and reclaimed sand infill originating from sports field applications.

Playground Renovation

The municipality’s objective was to create an attractive and functional play environment for local residents. The project focused on replacing ageing components while retaining suitable existing equipment where possible.

The ONE-DNA™ artificial grass used here was made in 100% PE (one polymer). This design was intended to keep the material consistent throughout the product structure, so that material recovery could be considered where suitable collection and recycling systems are available.

Reuse of Existing Equipment

An important aspect of the project was the retention of several existing play elements. The slide, climbing frame and tumble frame remained in good condition and were therefore incorporated into the new playground design.

By retaining these components, the municipality was able to integrate existing assets into the renovated play area while meeting the requirements identified during the participation process organised by De Speeltuinchef.

Collaboration and Design

The playground design was developed by Jette Hannaart and realised through collaboration between the municipality, contractors and project partners.

Municipal representatives Eveline van der Velden, Martin Kraaijenbos and Dennis Zegers, together with play consultant Serge Meeuws, contributed to the development of the project. HVR was responsible for implementation, working closely with site supervisor Martin Kraaijenbos and superintendent Jan Willem Verweij throughout the construction process.

A New Community Play Space

The completed playground provides a renewed outdoor space for local children and families. Through the combination of new surfacing, retained play equipment and collaborative project delivery, the municipality created a modern play environment designed for long-term community use.

Update, October 2026: this project used ONE-DNA™ in 100% PE. ONE-DNA™ sport surfaces are now supplied in 100% PO; see Technology for the current material routes.
