Update, October 2026: this article describes 2024 test results for earlier ONE-DNA™ 100% PE constructions. They are test reports, not certificates, and apply only to the product and configuration tested. See Technology for the current material routes.
ONE-DNA™ artificial grass has a reaction-to-fire test result corresponding to Bfl-s1 without sand infill. This makes it an option for applications where fire performance is part of the requirement.
What is Bfl-s1?
Bfl-s1 is a European reaction-to-fire class for floor coverings under EN 13501-1.
The class reflects how a floor covering behaves when exposed to fire, including flame spread and smoke production.
For specifiers, contractors and event organisers, a result from an independent laboratory provides documented information about a product’s fire performance in the configuration tested.
Why is this important?
Fire performance is a key consideration in many environments, including:
- Events and exhibitions
- Public buildings
- Commercial spaces
- Indoor recreational areas
- Temporary installations
In these applications, materials often need to meet specific fire performance requirements before they can be specified or installed.
Fire performance without sand infill
Many artificial grass systems rely on infill materials to help achieve specific performance characteristics.
The tested ONE-DNA™ product reached its Bfl-s1 result without sand infill, which gives flexibility where infill-free systems are preferred.
This can be relevant for temporary installations, event environments and indoor applications where installation efficiency and ease of removal matter.
Independently tested
Fire performance claims should always be supported by recognised testing.
The ONE-DNA™ product was tested at Ghent University in accordance with EN ISO 9239-1 and EN ISO 11925-2, giving specifiers and project owners documented evidence for the tested configuration.
Suitable applications
ONE-DNA™ can be considered for projects where fire performance has to be addressed alongside appearance and functionality, such as:
- Event spaces
- Exhibition stands
- Retail environments
- Offices
- Public buildings
- Indoor and outdoor recreational areas
As fire safety requirements develop, independent test evidence is becoming increasingly important. Check that the configuration a project will use matches the configuration tested.
