A major outdoor space transformation has recently been completed at Amazon’s facility in Milton Keynes, England. The project was delivered by Venture Play and focused on creating a more attractive and functional outdoor environment for employees.
Reimagining an underused outdoor area
The existing space was largely surrounded by parking areas and offered limited opportunities for employees to spend time outdoors during breaks. The objective was to create a welcoming environment that would encourage outdoor use and contribute positively to the workplace experience.
To achieve this, Amazon selected Venture Play to design and install a new outdoor area incorporating ONE-DNA™ artificial grass.
Creating a practical breakout space
The renovated area provides employees with an attractive outdoor setting where they can relax, meet colleagues and spend time away from their workstations.
The installation of ONE-DNA™ artificial grass helped create a green visual appearance throughout the space while providing a durable surface suitable for regular use.
Product selection
ONE-DNA™ artificial grass was chosen as part of the project design. The product was made in 100% PE (one polymer) and was later covered by Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), independently verified via MRPI in 2024 for the product stage (A1 to A3) of the former Hasselt production.
The installation was also registered within the ONE-DNA™ Take-Back Program that was in place at the time.
A successful collaboration
The Milton Keynes project demonstrates how outdoor workplace environments can be transformed into attractive spaces that support employee wellbeing and day-to-day use.
Through close collaboration between Amazon and Venture Play, an underutilised outdoor area has been converted into a functional and visually appealing breakout space that employees can enjoy throughout the year.
Looking ahead
Following the successful completion of the Milton Keynes project, discussions are ongoing regarding similar workplace enhancement projects at additional locations. The project highlights how thoughtful design and quality materials can contribute to creating engaging outdoor environments within modern workplaces.
Editor’s note, October 2026: this article describes the situation at the time of publication (November 2023). ONE-DNA™ does not currently operate a take-back programme in any market.
Update, October 2026: this article reflects the ONE-DNA™ range at the time of publication, based on polyethylene (PE). ONE-DNA™ now also includes a 100% PO route; see Technology. The EPDs mentioned (MRPI, 2024) cover the product stage (A1 to A3) of products made at the former Hasselt site and do not represent current production in Portugal.
