For years, Basisschool De Phoenix in Zwolle faced the challenges that came with a natural grass field on the school grounds. During dry periods, dust regularly found its way into classrooms and hallways, while wet weather often turned the field into a muddy area that limited play opportunities.
The field is located next to the school in the heart of a residential neighbourhood and serves not only students, but also children from the surrounding community after school hours. The school therefore looked for a solution that would remain attractive, accessible and usable throughout the year.
Designed around everyday use
Following discussions with the Vario Fields team, the school selected ONE-DNA™ artificial grass for the project. The new surface provides a practical, low-maintenance play environment that remains available for use throughout changing weather conditions.
Marco Veneboer, principal of De Phoenix, explains:
The new surface aligns well with how we want to use our outdoor space. It provides students and neighbourhood children with a place to play throughout the year.
A documented approach
The installation is supported through the ONE-DNA™ project registration system, linking the field to product and project information throughout its service life.
This provides clear documentation for the school and contributes to a transparent record of the installation.
Open to the community
To preserve the open character of the playground, the school decided not to install fencing around the field. Existing goals were reinstalled, creating a welcoming space where children from both the school and the surrounding neighbourhood can meet, play and be active together.
The result is a field that remains accessible while fitting naturally into its surroundings.
A space that gets used
The renovated playground has created a cleaner and more practical outdoor environment for both students and local residents. By focusing on usability, accessibility and everyday performance, Basisschool De Phoenix has created a play space designed to serve the community throughout the year.
