{"id":27269,"date":"2024-04-08T10:17:53","date_gmt":"2024-04-08T08:17:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one-dna.com\/?p=27269"},"modified":"2026-11-02T04:38:53","modified_gmt":"2026-11-02T03:38:53","slug":"verified-environmental-product-declaration-for-one-dna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one-dna.com\/us\/verified-environmental-product-declaration-for-one-dna\/","title":{"rendered":"2024: ONE-DNA\u2122 EPDs published in MRPI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In April 2024, we announced that ONE-DNA\u2122 artificial grass had received verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), published via MRPI\u00ae.<\/p>\n<p>This milestone provided independently verified environmental information about our products at the time and supported greater transparency for architects, municipalities, contractors, developers and other decision-makers involved in sustainable procurement and specification.<\/p>\n<p>The EPDs were to be published through recognized environmental databases, making verified product information accessible to stakeholders across Europe and beyond.<\/p>\n<h4>What is an EPD?<\/h4>\n<p>An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an independently verified document that reports the environmental performance of a product for the life cycle stages it declares.<\/p>\n<p>Based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), an EPD provides transparent and comparable environmental information, allowing products with the same function to be evaluated using a common methodology.<\/p>\n<p>EPDs are developed according to internationally recognized standards, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ISO 14025<\/li>\n<li>ISO 14040<\/li>\n<li>ISO 14044<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These standards ensure consistency, transparency and comparability of environmental data.<\/p>\n<h4>Why EPDs Matter<\/h4>\n<p>As environmental requirements become increasingly important in procurement, construction and public projects, EPDs provide objective information that supports informed decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>EPDs help stakeholders:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Compare products using a consistent methodology<\/li>\n<li>Assess environmental impacts across the declared life cycle stages<\/li>\n<li>Support environmental targets and procurement requirements<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to building certifications and environmental assessments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Who Uses EPDs?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Architects and Designers: EPDs help architects evaluate material choices and support environmental objectives within building and landscape projects.<\/li>\n<li>Contractors and Construction Companies: EPDs provide verified environmental data that can support bid requirements, project specifications and environmental reporting.<\/li>\n<li>Developers and Asset Owners: Developers increasingly rely on environmental performance data when selecting materials and evaluating long-term project impacts.<\/li>\n<li>Municipalities and Public Authorities: Public organizations use EPDs to support transparent procurement processes and environmental policy objectives.<\/li>\n<li>Sustainability Consultants: EPDs provide essential data for Life Cycle Assessments and broader environmental evaluations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Transparency Through Verified Data<\/h4>\n<p>The publication of verified EPDs reflected the growing importance of measurable environmental performance within the artificial grass industry.<\/p>\n<p>By providing independently verified environmental information, ONE-DNA\u2122 enabled stakeholders to make decisions based on documented data rather than assumptions or marketing claims.<\/p>\n<p>As environmental reporting and product transparency continue to evolve, EPDs will play an increasingly important role in helping organizations evaluate and compare materials on a consistent basis.<\/p>\n<p><em>Update, October 2026: the EPDs referred to here (MRPI, 2024) covered the product stage (A1 to A3) of products made at the former Hasselt site. They do not represent current production in Portugal; EPDs for current production are in their final stage.
