{"id":27265,"date":"2024-03-18T22:28:09","date_gmt":"2024-03-18T21:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one-dna.com\/?p=27265"},"modified":"2026-11-02T04:35:06","modified_gmt":"2026-11-02T03:35:06","slug":"fire-tested-artificial-grass-for-indoor-events-and-exhibition-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/one-dna.com\/us\/fire-tested-artificial-grass-for-indoor-events-and-exhibition-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"Reaction-to-fire classification of artificial grass for indoor, events and exhibitions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fire performance is an important consideration when selecting flooring materials for indoor venues, exhibitions, trade shows and public events.<\/p>\n<p>For many applications, materials must meet specific reaction-to-fire requirements before they can be used within regulated environments.<\/p>\n<h4>Understanding Fire Classification<\/h4>\n<p>European fire classifications help specifiers evaluate how materials perform when exposed to fire.<\/p>\n<p>For flooring products, classifications such as Bfl-s1 and Cfl-s1 are commonly used to assess characteristics including flame spread and smoke production under defined test conditions.<\/p>\n<p>These classifications provide a recognized framework for comparing products and supporting compliance with project requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ONE-DNA\u2122 fire test results<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2024, certain ONE-DNA\u2122 artificial grass products were tested at Ghent University. Depending on the product, the results were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>classified Bfl-s1 to EN 13501-1 in the tested build-up<\/li>\n<li>classified Cfl-s1 to EN 13501-1 in the tested build-up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Testing was conducted in accordance with EN ISO 9239-1 and EN ISO 11925-2. These are test reports, not certificates.<\/p>\n<p>Project teams should always verify that the selected product and installation build-up match the tested build-up.<\/p>\n<h4>Applications<\/h4>\n<p>Artificial grass with a documented floor fire classification may be considered for applications such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Exhibition stands<\/li>\n<li>Trade fairs<\/li>\n<li>Indoor event spaces<\/li>\n<li>Public venues<\/li>\n<li>Commercial environments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The suitability of any product depends on local regulations and project requirements. Roofs are assessed separately (BROOF), not with the floor classes Bfl or Cfl.<\/p>\n<h4>Material Transparency<\/h4>\n<p>In addition to fire performance, material transparency is becoming increasingly relevant within procurement and specification processes.<\/p>\n<p>The tested ONE-DNA\u2122 products were made in 100% PE (one polymer) and were supported at the time by product documentation, environmental declarations and traceability records.<\/p>\n<h4>Choosing the Right Product<\/h4>\n<p>When selecting artificial grass for indoor or event applications, specifiers should evaluate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fire test results for the build-up<\/li>\n<li>Test documentation<\/li>\n<li>Product composition<\/li>\n<li>Installation requirements<\/li>\n<li>Intended application<\/li>\n<li>Environmental performance information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Documented test results for the specified build-up provide the most reliable basis for making informed decisions.<\/p>\n<p><em>Update, October 2026: this article describes 2024 test results for earlier ONE-DNA\u2122 100% PE constructions.
