Municipalities, architects, contractors and project owners are seeking reliable information that helps them better understand the characteristics of the products they select.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the focus is shifting from marketing claims towards documented and independently verified information.<\/p>\n<h4>Understanding environmental information<\/h4>\n<p>Artificial grass systems are complex products that require raw materials, manufacturing processes, transportation and installation.<\/p>\n<p>To evaluate environmental performance consistently, recognised assessment methodologies have been developed. These methodologies help quantify environmental information using transparent and standardised calculation methods.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the most widely used tools are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)<\/li>\n<li>Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Together, these provide a structured approach for evaluating environmental data throughout the lifecycle of a product.<\/p>\n<h4>Why documentation matters<\/h4>\n<p>Environmental information is most valuable when it is supported by recognised methodologies and independently verified data.<\/p>\n<p>An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) provides a standardised way of presenting environmental information, enabling project owners and specifiers to compare products using a common framework.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than relying solely on general claims, EPDs provide documented information that can support procurement and specification decisions.<\/p>\n<h4>Material composition plays a role<\/h4>\n<p>Material composition is one of many factors that can influence product design and environmental performance.<\/p>\n<p>ONE-DNA\u2122 was developed around a 100% PE (one polymer) design and supported by transparent material documentation. This approach reflects a broader industry trend towards increased transparency regarding material composition and product information.<\/p>\n<p>By providing clear documentation, project owners and stakeholders are better equipped to evaluate products based on objective information.<\/p>\n<h4>Environmental Product Declarations and ONE-DNA\u2122<\/h4>\n<p>At the time, ONE-DNA\u2122 products were supported by Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and Environmental Product Declarations (2024 MRPI EPDs, A1 to A3, former Hasselt production).<\/p>\n<p>These documents provide independently verified information relating to the product and help ensure environmental data is presented using recognised methodologies.<\/p>\n<p>For municipalities, architects and consultants, access to documented information can support informed decision-making throughout the specification process.<\/p>\n<h4>Looking ahead<\/h4>\n<p>As regulations, procurement requirements and reporting expectations continue to evolve, environmental documentation is becoming increasingly important within the artificial grass sector.<\/p>\n<p>The direction is clear: environmental performance should be supported by transparent, comparable and independently verified information.<\/p>\n<p>For ONE-DNA\u2122, this means continuing to focus on material transparency, product documentation and recognised assessment methodologies that help stakeholders make informed choices based on facts and data.<\/p>\n<p><em>Update, October 2026: this article reflects the ONE-DNA\u2122 range at the time of publication, based on polyethylene (PE).
