Whether a project is a temporary installation or a permanent public space, materials often have to meet defined fire performance requirements.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, ONE-DNA\u2122 artificial grass was independently tested at Ghent University and classified Cfl-s1 to EN 13501-1 in the tested build-up.<\/p>\n<h4>What is Cfl-s1?<\/h4>\n<p>Cfl-s1 is a European reaction-to-fire class for floor coverings under EN 13501-1.<\/p>\n<p>The class reflects how a floor covering behaves when exposed to fire, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Flame spread<\/li>\n<li>Smoke production<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For architects, specifiers and project owners, a test result for the build-up they plan to use provides a documented basis for assessing suitability.<\/p>\n<h4>Why fire testing matters<\/h4>\n<p>Fire requirements are particularly relevant in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Public buildings<\/li>\n<li>Offices<\/li>\n<li>Educational facilities<\/li>\n<li>Exhibition halls<\/li>\n<li>Retail environments<\/li>\n<li>Event venues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In many situations, flooring materials must demonstrate documented fire performance before they can be approved for use. Artificial grass is no exception: testing under controlled conditions is how performance is verified against the relevant requirements.<\/p>\n<h4>The tested build-up<\/h4>\n<p>A fire class belongs to the build-up that was tested, not to a product in general. Whether infill, an underlay or a different substrate is used can change the result.<\/p>\n<p>The tested ONE-DNA\u2122 product uses a construction without a conventional latex or polyurethane coating. In the tested build-up, this offered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Documented fire performance in the tested build-up<\/li>\n<li>A natural appearance<\/li>\n<li>Reduced material complexity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Suitable for a range of applications<\/h4>\n<p>Artificial grass with a matching, documented floor fire classification can be considered for environments including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trade fairs and exhibitions<\/li>\n<li>Event venues<\/li>\n<li>Commercial interiors<\/li>\n<li>Educational facilities<\/li>\n<li>Public buildings<\/li>\n<li>Landscaping projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Roofs are assessed separately (BROOF), not with the floor classes Bfl or Cfl.<\/p>\n<h4>Need a different class?<\/h4>\n<p>In 2024, selected ONE-DNA\u2122 products were also classified Bfl-s1 to EN 13501-1 in the tested build-up, which may suit projects with stricter requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Project designers and specifiers can select the appropriate solution for their regulatory and technical requirements, checking that the build-up matches the test.<\/p>\n<h4>Independently tested<\/h4>\n<p>The results are based on independent testing at Ghent University in accordance with EN ISO 9239-1 and EN ISO 11925-2.
