Features that support participation by children with different abilities

According to the project guidelines, 70% of the play elements are accessible to all visitors and 50% are designed to be playable by every child.

Materials and installation

For the playground surface, KSP installed ONE-DNA™ artificial grass in combination with Schmitz shock pads. The play area also incorporates equipment supplied by Kompan.

The project brought together multiple suppliers and specialists to create a safe and functional environment that meets the municipality’s requirements for accessibility, performance and long-term use.

A collaborative project

Zedgar Velthuizen, project leader for the Physical Domain at the Municipality of Amsterdam, and project manager Marijn Sleurink were closely involved throughout the development and implementation of the project.

The collaboration between the municipality, KSP Kunstgras, Kompan and Schmitz resulted in a playground that combines inclusive design principles with practical and durable material choices.

Material management

The installed ONE-DNA™ artificial grass was registered within the Take-Back Program that was in place at the time. During installation, offcuts and surplus material could be collected separately for future processing where suitable collection routes were available.

A new community space

Brasapark demonstrates how inclusive design can be integrated into public outdoor spaces. The result is a modern playground where children with different abilities can meet, interact and enjoy outdoor play together in a safe and welcoming environment.

Editor’s note, October 2026: this article describes the situation at the time of publication (September 2023). ONE-DNA™ does not currently operate a take-back programme in any market.

Related: Playgrounds · Products

In Amsterdam, KSP Kunstgras has completed the installation of a new playground at Brasapark, located on top of the Gaasperdammertunnel above the A9 motorway.
